Job Description: Staff Specialist for Post-Secondary Advisory

About the Job:

The Staff Specialist for Post-Secondary Advisory will take the lead in coordinating post-secondary planning for high school students. This involves both college and career planning to ensure that all students, regardless of their aspirations, have a well-coordinated plan to support them in achieving their goals.

Essential Functions:

  1. Engage in professional learning sessions with the Office of College and Career Readiness to enhance capacity in post-secondary planning and advising.
  2. Lead and coordinate college and career planning for individual students by collaborating with school counselors and career advisors to develop appropriate plans.
  3. Support the principal, school counselor, and other staff in creating and evaluating the implementation of school-based post-secondary programs and services.
  4. Assist the principal in establishing and executing college and career pathways based on local workforce needs and current practices in college application processes.
  5. Collaborate with schools, community partners, and colleges to cultivate a college-going culture and ensure college-bound students have the necessary opportunities and preparation.
  6. Work with the Communications and Family and Community Engagement Office to disseminate information on college, career, military, and financial aid accessibility through various channels.
  7. Serve as the school’s dual enrollment administrator, facilitating accelerated opportunities for students in collaboration with university partners.
  8. Collaborate closely with the Office of Teaching and Learning and the Office of Career Readiness to understand and support standards for college and career readiness.
  9. Administer Naviance for the school, ensuring all information is up-to-date.
  10. Ensure compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies, federal and state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or institution of higher education.
  2. Three years of experience in working with college and/or career readiness and access programs.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of effective college and career readiness standards, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  4. Familiarity with current practices of college and career counseling.
  5. Strong leadership and management skills with a track record of achieving positive outcomes for students.
  6. Experience working with diverse populations.
  7. Proficiency in technical computer applications, including Microsoft and Google Suites.
  8. Ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet established schedules, timelines, and deadlines.
